Boy Scouts Help Rebuild Local Park

Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood, Colo., was designed so that, in the case of heavy rains, the park would absorb all of the flooding, protecting the houses around it.

Last September, that’s exactly what happened. The lake, normally 110 acres, swelled to 1,200 acres after significant rainfall. The homes were safe, but most of the park — including trails, parking lots and picnic shelters — suffered significant damage.

The surrounding community quickly chipped in to help, including local Boy Scout Troop 808.

Earlier this month, the Scouts helped refurbish four shelters, a restroom facility and some sign posts.

The Scouts are planning to return to the park for more work later this year.
