Scout Gives Back To Hospital That Saved His Life

When Nebraska Boy Scout Doug Pepper was 13, he spent seven weeks at The Nebraska Medical Center, where he underwent a successful liver transplant.

Two years later, Doug is doing fine, and for his Eagle project, he paid back some of the people that helped make his hospital stay more comfortable.

The Child Life Services program at The Nebraska Medical Center is designed to help children and their families make it through an extended stay in the hospital with the least amount of discomfort and stress.

“They had plenty of activities that allowed me to meet new, different-storied people,” Doug told the Mid-America Council’s blog. “Child Life completely changed my stay at the hospital.”

For his Eagle project, Doug organized two supply drives for Child Life Services. He collected more than 2,500 items such as books, DVDs, games and gift cards.
