Alexandre Bentaieb is a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 965 in Kuwait, an Arab country in Western Asia. (Troop 965 is part of the BSA’s Direct Service program, which makes BSA programs available U.S. citizens around the world.)
Alex spent much of his childhood in Jordan, another Western Asia country. Jordan has always welcomed refugees — people who flee another country due to intolerable circumstances. When Alex heard a news report that 250,000 refugees had just entered Jordan, he knew he had to do something to help them.
So Alex started Operation Puppet Pals. Inspired by a sock puppet that one of his brothers had left lying around the house, Alex gathered 100 volunteers, and together they created more than 1,000 socket puppets. The puppets were added to welcome kits that were given to the children of the refugees.
