More wheels equal a smoother ride, right? That was designer Milton Reevesā€™s logic when he introduced the 20-foot-long Overland OctoAuto. He also thought using eight tires would allow each one to last longer. Customers didnā€™t buy it. Reeves displayed the OctoAuto at the very first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. He received exactly zero orders.

  1. I wondering how did it steer? Did all 4 front tires steer?

are you crazy mr.reeves? more wheels does not mean a smoother ride!!!

Wait… I see his logic. Let’s say one wheel fell off. The car would still work because there are still 7 wheels holding it up.(Plus, 7 is a lucky number, so the car’s owner might have good luck.) In fact, this car could withstand the middle 4 wheels off because 4 wheels would still be holding it up.

    • I take that back! What everyone says about this trash is true! More wheels = more ugly, more squeak, morgageing your house, and my logic, A BETTER CHANCE OF TIPPING OVER!!!!!!!!
Mikey, you COULD just park it by the building you’re at, but I don’t think that’s a very good idea. Someone could steal it.

      • parking a 20 foot car by a building? i think not!and more wheels means more wheels go over a bump!

how did it perform? Just because nobody bought dosen’t mean it was a bad car. From the information that is given, the only thing that we can understand is that people didn’t like it. There is nothing stating how well the car performed.

    • Amazing Cop // July 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm //

That’s true. It never says anything about the cars performance.

      • it doesn’t matter!
        (a) to hard to park.
        (b) you’d have to mortgage your house to get new tires.
