7 Things You Should Know Before Buying Lego Worlds

Is It Like Lego Meets Minecraft?

Yes. But here, your goal is to become a Master Builder. As an astronaut, you travel on your spaceship to various planets. On each planet, you embark on humorous quests to collect gold bricks. Collect all of them, and you move on to the next planet. Although it takes too long to get to free-form building, you can eventually create many kinds of structures. The characters, like vampires, are creative and so are the tools, like the ray gun that helps you build.

It’s Inexpensive, Too.

At $30, it’s about half the price of other Lego console games. Plus, it’s one of the first Lego games in the last decade not to involve another piece of media, like Star Wars or Batman.

It’s New. It’s Cheap. And It’s Open World. That Sounds Great, Right?

Hold on. The game has three big issues. First, the wacky camera angles are not great at all. They really diminish your enjoyment of the game. These problems can make you dizzy, and that’s no way to enjoy a game.

What’s Another Issue?

It doesn’t feel finished. Beyond the camera issues, the planets aren’t that big. Some are even too small to be called moons. They should be called meteors. That would be more honest.

And The Final Issue?

It’s the interface. It’s just confusing. You expect to use a controller trigger or stick to bring up your tools. Instead, you press a controller button and then use the stick. The interface will feel odd to anyone familiar with console games.

Is There A Silver Lining?

The game developers have promised that there will be constant updates to make the game better. There was a huge patch to download around launch day. If the camera issue clears up down the line, an update will be added at the end of this story.

Is Lego Worlds Worth Buying?

If you love Lego, you probably won’t mind dealing with the dizzying camera. Plus, the price is decent, about half of other console games. If you’re used to the depth of Minecraft, however, the game will seem like it needs a lot more cool stuff. Personally, I couldn’t get beyond those crazy camera problems.
