  1. Scout Mom says:

Can sanding the tires make it worse. I feel like our tires are rougher now. Any thoughts or suggestions on what I should do now?

  2. John says:

Every derby has their own set of rules. Beveling, tapering, thin sanding, wafering and lathe turning of the wheels is sometimes prohibited. But lightly sanding wheels to smooth them and make them more round is often ok. Check your derby’s rules to be sure.

  5. Anonymous says:

the little nubs on the plastic tire from the mold really can slow you down if you don’t get them off, but be carefull, if you sand them too much, you can create a flat spot which could be as bad as not sanding your wheels at all

  6. Moose says:

There is nothing in the rule book that states you cannot sand the wheels. There are three different molds the BSA uses. One are bettert than the other two. That is why it is legal to sand them, because there is an unfair advantage if some boys get the better wheel. Look carefully the next time you get a kit.

  7. Parent says:

done it since 1978. Round sharp edge on inside of tire. molding nob for tire is usually the problem./
