Coating the lint in paraffin (or cheap candles from the dollar store) will help protect it from getting wet. Magnesium bars are cheap and light too. Scrape a little on top and hit it with your flint/steel. Magnesium burns at about 5,000 degrees (it’s used in flares) and will help get any fire going.

use peanut butter or potato chips for fire starters as well.
