Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has acquired the world’s largest rubber band ball. Made by Joel Waul, a 28-year-old Floridian, the ball stands 6-feet tall and weighs nearly 10,000 pounds. Starting construction on April 10, 2004, Waul has since used 720,000 rubber bands to create the giant sphere, which he nicknamed “Megaton.”
Megaton will make the trip from Waul’s home in Lauderhill, Fla., to Ripley’s headquarters in Orlando, Fla., beginning Thursday, Oct. 29. Two cranes, a flatbed truck and a transportation team will help with the move.
