It only took an average of 12.46 seconds for a 16-year-old from Japan to solve the Rubik’s Cube and win the world championship on Sunday.
To win the Rubik’s Cube world championship, each competitor has to solve the puzzle five times. The person with the fastest average time is declared the champion.
Yu Nakajima’s 12.46-second average won the competition. Andrew Kang, of the United States came in second, but he had the fastest time for a single heat, 10.88 seconds, just short of the world record of 9.86 seconds.
The annual competition, which has been held since 1982, attracted more than 250 competitors from 33 countries. This year’s event was held for the first time in Hungary where the game was invented by Erno Rubik in 1974.
