Dear Pedro, Where do you think the best backpacking trails are aside from Philmont? I can’t wait to go to New Mexico, but I need some suggestions for my troop to practice before we go.

Of course, I’ve had enough backpacking to last me a lifetime (eating and sleeping are a lot more fun). But since you’re in West Virginia, Marshall, why don’t you check out the Appalachian Trail?
Of course, when traversing the AT utilize a real topo map, calculate an exagerrated (slower than believed) speed of travel, and of course use the hiking principles in your scout handbook especially route of travel, number traveling, planned arrivals and departures, you know, the properlu prepared hiking itinerary.
There are alot of trails located in the Allegheny National Forest which is located in Pennsylvania and another National Forest located in West Virginia.
The Cumberland Trail System in Tennesse offers alot of miles of hiking in the Appalachian Mountains similar to the Appalachian Trail.
