Inexpensive pot, plate and bowl

Q. I have been looking for a pot, plate and bowl all for under $50. But I can’t find any?
—Hungry Nicholas, Boring, Ore.

A. First off, Nick, is your town really named Boring? That’s awesome. And I’ll guess it’s not too boring. OK, I think I’ve found exactly what you need—all for about $25. Here’s what I’d recommend:

  • REI Campware Table Set ($11.50; rei.com) You get a polypropylene bowl, plate, and cup with an acetyl spoon, knife, and fork. The whole rig is BPA-free, weighs just 12 ounces and comes with a handy mesh bag that will help air-dry your stuff after washing it.
  • MSR Stowaway Pot ($16; cascadedesigns.com/msr) If all you need is a lightweight pot with a lid and handle, this one is perfect. It’s stainless steel, weighs 9.5 ounces and has a half-liter capacity.

  1. I go to secondhand stores like Goodwill or Salvation Army to look for Regular small kitchen pans with lids. I remove the handles to save space. I find low cost camping utensils at Walmart, I can find a bowl and cup for about a buck each. My total cost is about $5.

  2. REI, Gander Mountain, Cabelas, K-mart, Target, all sell these sets for $10.00-$15.00. You can get them in many colors, solid or transparent, as a set in by the piece. If Oregon doesn’t sell camping gear you can order it from a place that does.

  3. I ran into the same problem also so I went to Dick Sporting Goods and found one that was an easy to wash plastic set and it had a cup, bowl, plate, and fork and spoon for around 15.00.

    hope this helps
