Warm sleeping bag

Q. I have bought, used and received a lot of sleeping bags, and I just can’t seem to find one that’s warm enough. Please help.

A. Good question, Cody, and a common one. It’s so common that I wrote a complete buyer’s guide to sleeping bags. The key is to check the temperature ratings of each bag and get one that fits your camping climate. You might find you’ll need more than one bag if you camp in a lot of different weather conditions. Check out the complete buyer’s guide here.

i use a mummy bag from the north face its rated for 0 deg f and has always kept me warm, and is great for backpacking, also you can get a sleeping bag liner that goes on the inside to keep you warmer, i use just the liner on really warm campouts

try puting a fleece blanket inside your current sleeping bag. i did this for my 30+ degree sleeping bag in 0 degree weather and was plenty warm.

I ordered the Zephyr bag from REI even before you wrote this article, so I am going to use it this weekend for backpacking.

  4. GEAR MAN says:

REI makes a zero degree bag that I use in winter, and it works great. I don’t know the exact model it is, but I know it’s light blue, has a hood string, and it’s a mummy bag. It works great though, my grandpa used it in Alaska for eight years and it worked fine!

if you are having trouble being warm enough, the problem might not be your sleeping bag but rather your sleeping mat. Don’t use an inflatable air mattress as the air inside it will be the same temp as the surrounding air. Also, try stripping down to your underwear. The sleeping bag has to have access to your body heat in order to utilize it properly and keep you warm and clothing reduces the amount of heat your bag has to work with.
