Which boots do you recommend?
Q. Hey Gear Guy! I am moving to an 85-acre farm soon and I’m looking for a pair of boots for hiking, fishing, hunting and riding my dirt bike across the farm. What would you recommend?

A. Lucky you, Xavier! I’d love to live on an 85-acre farm! I’m guessing you want good quality and comfort, without spending a bunch. A good start would be these L.L. Bean Pathfinder Midheight Hikers ($79; llbean.com). The are nice lightweight hiking boots that are comfortable straight out of the box. Being from MN we use a lot of different seasonal boots. For general hiking I suggest Timberlands; light and affordable ($40.00). if in colder weather I hike in Red Wing “Irish Setter” boots ($120.00). Again super light in weight, covers above the ankle, water proof and insulated to 20 temp rating. For real cold weather nothing beats “Iceman” or “Sorels” boots ($120.00); not the knock offs though; they look the same but offer far less comfort and cold protection.
