An easy meal for camping: Wrap a hamburger patty, some frozen peas and diced potatoes in foil and place in your campfire until cooked.
i also take one normal slice of bread and one slice of bread from the end of the loaf. i put the jelly on the one from the end so it doesn’t go through because it’s too thick. but if you don’t like eating bread that’s covered with crust, this trick works too…
YES! I have been looking for a way to keep sandwiches from getting soggy for years, and years. Thank you so much for posting this idea!
We toast the bread first. It is crunchy when you make the sandwich, but after a few hours it softens, but it doesn’t get soggy.
I ALWAYS eat penutbutter and jelly for school.
Use tortilla to make peanut and butter sandwiches, you also don’t need to worry about soggy bread or squished bread.
Something else that gets messy when packed is a cupcake. My mom cuts the cupcake in half and puts the icing in the middle. That way the icing doesn’t come off with the plastic wrap.
Another idea to keep bread from getting soggy is to mix the jelly with the PB before you spread onto the bread. Your bread doesn’t get soggy as fast and the jelly doesn’t leak out!
i actually like those soggy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches there is something about them that just make me feel soo good
That is a really good idea. My mom always seems to pack these soggy sandwiches for outings and hikes, but now I see that she probably just isn’t making them the right way! I’ll mention that to her so maybe she can improve a little. The school lunch sandwiches might need to try that trick too. But I’m not sure if the sandwiches would improve. They taste like solid rock. (Tasteless, to be exact.)
I used to make PB&J like this for my dad but stopped when he complained that the jelly kept sliding out.
u culd just frese the bred 4 a dai. then, u spred the jeli and penut buter
Keep your peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich from getting soggy by spreading peanut butter on both pieces of bread and then spreading the jelly in the middle.
I don’t go on many camping trips but i would love to!!!!!?
my troop stays up and plays cards. besides i sleep heavily anyway
I just went camping this columbus day weekend from illinois to michigan. It was cool i got to drive the pontoon boat.
put wood shavings in a dixie cup, then put melted wax in the cup; before the wax cools, put a short piece of a string a little bit into the wax. Then wait for the wax to cool then fold down the top. just light the fuse and you can make a fire quick and easy. Make in bulks and you should be set, it really works!
Usually the scouts in my troop don’t complain about the noise (unless they think they need somewhere quiet to read). We do a lot of card games
Thanks a lot. The other boys in my troop are always the last ones asleep and the first ones up. They make a lot of noise in between.
I like to fish and that idea will help me get to sleep better
Hey that is a good idea. People in my troop are very loud, expeselly when they’re playing cards. We love to fish to!
When I go camping I use Cat Tails for a fire starter. It is easy and faster. It goes Poof!
when i go camping i take a windable flashlight, it save me money on batteries and it is very light weight and saves me room.
when I go camping I all ways bring a pocket knife, compass, water bottle, food and a fishing rod
Hey that is a good idea see no matter how heard i try i’m always next to the noisy ones, lol t.y (Thank you)
When I go on camping trips, there are always some boys who stay up late and are really loud. I always bring foam earplugs so I can get a good night’s sleep. They also work great as bobbers the next day when we go fishing.
i like bionicles and i have about over 20. i have vultraz and it cost $30. man i’m trying to get rockoh t3
i love bionicles i like have more then 100 bionicles.
BYE BYE
I THINK THAT LEGOS ARE SO MUCH FUN BECAUSE YOU CAN MAK ALL KINDS OF THINGS
Joseph’s right. I’ve taken apart and rebuilt my Bionicles multiple times, and I have cracked a few pieces.
Bionicle is the best! What I would really like ,though, would be a complete volume of all the Bionicle comic books that have been put out…..
Bionicle is the best! What I would really like ,though, would be a complete volume of all the Bionicle comic books that have been put out…..
BIONICLES ARE ASWOME COOL RAD AND I JUST WANT THE OLD ONES!!!!
I don’t exactly leave my BIONICLES intact. The 1st generation ones I have are long gone (as in rebuilt into some other creation) but I tend to make a bigger and better one afterwards. Anyways, LEGOS are meant to be taken apart, I mean, why would they give you something you can build and take apart completely if it wasn’t supposed to be destroyed? I have only four creations that I have never destroyed that came in a set as is. The white Piraka dude (don’t know his name) a BIONICLE type Darth Vader and Super Battle Droid (the grey ones from Star Wars) and an AT-AT which had about 1100 pieces in it, and yes, it was not BIONICLE, I know.
This tip is really simple and really… correct. You need to be careful with all LEGOS. Here are a few easy ways to keep your LEGOS picture perfect:
-Once you have made a design, evaluate it. Is this something worth keeping? If so, don’t continue to move pieces around or take apart.
-If you chose to keep the design, try to fix any minor mistakes before mounting it. Suprisingly, those mistakes will show.
-Once you really like the design and feel that it looks great, put it in a safe spot where others can admire, but not touch it. A great place is your trophy case, display case, or other glass-incased shelf. A regular shelf works too, but in that case, get the message across that the design is for eyes only, not hands.
-When younger visitors come, or if siblings under the age of seven live with you, make sure that the design is out of their reach if not incased. That is just because younger kids sometimes have a harder time leaving things intact.
-Most importantly, enjoy your design. If you decided it was something worth keeping, it’s worth admiring too!
I use to collect boinicles. they where fun the first 2 months then it was a waste of money.
I like bionicles to I really like the water and ice ppl
where can you get old bionicles that are no longer sold on the lego website or in the catalog? Is there a database somewhere of all of them since they’ve come out?
the first bionicles good too
p.s. throwbots where made by lego
i like legos but i don’t like bionicles. i did like throwbots(like bionicles but old and long gone).
I used to collect bionicles I used have a titan but my brother broke it was totaly awesome has anybody seen Toa Ignika he’s wicked sweet!!!!
I just absoulotly ador BIONICLES!!!Their sssooo fun to play with!!!
i would like to collect all of the bionicles like 2001 tahu gali onua lewa kopaka and others tahu nuva lewa nuva gali nuva onua nuv
a and the 2003 2004 2005 2006 all
Yeah this is good advice if you don’t want to create rahi or combination titans and other characters. If you do take apart your Bionicles like me, just be sure to use as little force as possible and don’t take them apart needlessly. I love LEGO Bionicle!
p.s. Toa Mata/Nuva Tahu and Kopaka are my two all time favorite bionicle:)
I actually think your advice is right on! Many LEGO Bionicles come with small plastic pieces that can be easily broken or lost. I would recommend that once you build your toy, you leave it alone. Try not to continue to take pieces of and place them in other areas or start over for fun. I’ve learned that the hard way with my own Bionicles, because I used to continuously take them apart. I would end up loosing or breaking at least 4 pieces a week.
Thanks for the advice.
bionicles are awesome who could not like them.>=)
I like makeing new bionicels out of other bionicls
Sure they are Cool but their Weapons are Awsome!!!
I take ‘em apart, but Bionicles are awesome!!!!My favorite is Jaller Inika!
If you have ever seen the original makuta, you’ll know that the mask of life makes a great claw. Also, they are not “wickid easy” as lewa toa said, if your building 800 peice sets for fun.
But combing them is beter and they do not break esaly
I love Bionicles!!! They rock. My favorite one is Toa Kongu.
I take apart bionicles all the time you don’t have to worry about breaking them unless you are really strong.
4to8 year olds please dont use 15 colors on your creation,it bugs me.
yeah good tip but i build my own out of the other models so i have to take them apart
I have the toa ignika, the toa of life!!! Tomorrow, i might get toa phohatu, chirox, or antroz….
I started to like Bionicles when I was 5. They are wicked easy to build!!!!!!!
If you are into LEGO Bionicles, try not to take them apart unless you have to. I’ve taken pieces apart and broken several.
If you paint your car with a water base paint,or an acrylic spray paint. when you car is dry and decals are on spray your car with krylon acrylic crystal clear gloss spray paint,to hold the decals on the car. plus your racer will have some shine to it! just watch out for what paints you use.As some will not mix and bubble up on you.
i dont use nail polish but my sisters do so i could do that
Though I must say that I’m not a big nail polish fan, I can say that your idea is a really good one.
Keep the number stickers on your derby racecar by putting clear nail polish over the stickers after you put them on your car.
thats a good idea you could also buy craft paint that sticks to plastic and paint it silver or gold to make it look metal.
Are you asking where the article is, Alex? I don’t think this tip actually has any relation to an article from the Boy’s Life Magazine. However, I do think that it is a very creative and inventive idea for reusing something that most people would throw away. Thank you for sharing your ideas with the website. They are worth using!
Use the clips that hold old socks together as a money clip.
i like to put them into a ziploc bag and squeeze it on the pan. first i make a circle then i fill the middle
i like the dress up read stories idea im gonna try that
Think of a really, REALLY big eyedropper, and you get the idea. It should be somewhere in the kitchen….
i like my pancakes. I make ‘em and dress em up in whipped cream and them read them little bed time stories. but that’s just me.
I love to bake pancakes, but I was wondering how to get those picture perfect kinds. That is a really original and great idea that you have and I plan to try it the very next chance I get. In the meantime, I’d like to share some ingredients for perfect tasting breakfast treats with you! Try these tasty fruits in your pancakes:
-Apple chunks and cinnamon. Try these two together for a “winnamon” of a apple pie pancake.
-Raspberry, blueberry swirl. Swirl frozen raspberries and blueberries together for a mix that will keep everyone wanting more!
-Melon twist! Make a pancake out of mixed frozen melon for a summer treat!
-Down on the farm! Even Old MacDonald would approve of these country pancakes made with honey and buckwheat batter.
-Cinnamon Cake. This cinnamon roll pancake made with cinnamon, raisins, and pecans, and topped with vanilla frosting is a winner.
I have a lot of uses for turkey basters, none of them involve pancakes.
For perfectly round pancakes, put the batter in a turkey baster and squeeze it onto the griddle.
I just went canoeing at Blackwater river state park.(FL) We climbed a smanll cliff and found natual clay in little holes all over the place. It was really cool.We pan to make stuff out of it.
When you are modeling with clay, put it in a bag with a damp paper towel so it won’t dry out.
what’s a klondike derby?
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I am only a weblo but I went and it is fun! But you can get frostbite
i did not know what a klondike derby was either until u told me
It is good to bring two sleeping pads and two sleping bags with blankets because trying to sleep cold is bad. If you pee before you go to bed you stay warmer too.
I agree with Ryan. You should bring lots of rope, especially to the derby in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Climbing up the hill from the soccer field can get a little bit tiring, so try tying a rope around one of the trees behind the goal. And when you’re going down the big hill from the cabins and dining hall, don’t run. It’s not fun, believe me.
For your information, a Klondike derby is a weekend camping trip where various scout troops compete in a variety of activities. You will always be competing against other troops from your state. This is a boy scout only event.
Bringing extra rope seems to be a good idea. Not only do you need to bring extra rope, though, you need to bring an assortment of extra supplies. I sometimes find that a lot of people aren’t really prepared, and end up asking others on the trip for supplies. I would advise anyone who plans to go to bring a little more than needed, because it is always better to have a little more than a little less!
Your cars are the best pinewood derby cars I have ever seen in my life.I am trying to build a pinewood derby car myself. I want to build derby car just like your cars.
How do you not know what a klondike derby is. It is a weekend camping trip where you compete in all different activities against other troops from your state.
in california a Klondike derby is a snow camp & competition. we’re going on one in a few weeks up in the Sierra Mountain and I think extra rope is a good idea so thanks!
For a Klondike derby, always bring extra rope. A lot of extra rope.
what do you do if you ran out of places to put your baseball cards
I have a rookie sammy sosa and a rookie Mark McGuire.I have 2 regular derek jeter and 2 reguler A-rods.I also have a whitehall collection cy young (look it up).
Before putting a card in a hard plastic case, put it into a soft sleeve, also called a penny sleeve. That will keep the card from scratching up inside of the case.
18,000 cards, and only 13 years old. Not nearly done collecting either.
I have a Babe Ruth 10 albert pujols and 18 alfanso soriono.
is sammy sosa card for white sox worth more than cubs
This is a great idea. A really good idea also to make sure that the edges aren’t crimpled and folded is to keep the baseball cards in a regular size shoe box. A shoe box that is put on a shelf can keep baseball cards in at least very good condition if the cards aren’t handled alot such as when trading baseball cards at a lunch table. If someone has room on a shelf, a small steel mailbox can keep the baseball cards in almost untouched condition from when they were opened in the original baseball card pack. A small steel mailbox won’t crumple at all if furniture falls on it; the baseball cards will remain unsmashed in the steel mailbox.
I have a Babe Ruth bat!! that i got from my dad that got it from his dad and it sells for $$200,000.000 im not joking Bade Ruth is my grat granddad no joke
my most valueble card is a yoggi berra card that is worth 175$
I have, Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, 2 singed Mickey Mantles, Mookie Wilson, and Aaron Boone.
and 4/5ths of the cincinnati Reds
I would need about 100 plastic cases and I don’t have any money.:-)
Scoutster 764,
You can find plastic cases at most hobby supply stores, or memorabili shops.
Hope this helps,
Scout for life
What is a plasic case and where can I get one?
I am tod and I have a BabeRuth, Tycobb , and Cal Ripkin jr.
I have alot of baseball cards I have only 15 good cards one of them is a ken grifty JR.
I have five really rare baseball cards they are Babe Ruth, Hank Aarron, Cal Ripken Jr., Mickey Mantle, Wille Mays, and Reggie Jackson.
I agee with hot shout, you want to bathe in money but then for all these years you’ve collected it’s a hard choice I got my uncles 91′ complete set if I sell that now I’ll be dead.
I agree. My signed baseball cards are in plastic cases
Thank you for your comment on keeping baseball cards in an individual plastic case instead of a binder. You are correct that cards will stay in mint condition if treated correctly.
I have 25,000 baseball cards, and I am going after the record of the most baseball cards. Unfortunetly the record is 5,000,000.
i hav 20,000 cards of basball footbal and basktbal
The Klondike is in two weeks, I’m glad you gus put that out I’ll do that.
Thanks for the advice keep up the good work.
joshandjc – God bless.
I have ALOT of football, baseball, and orther cards
steelman, what are you talking about? Please, be more respectful of others. Thank you.
Austin, beautiful post, my man. Great idea. Got to keep them corners straight! Merry CHRISTmas, and have a Blessed New Year!
If you want to go hiking and not attract animals and insects, dont use deoderant. Animals and insects love it!
If you have a good baseball card that you want to keep in mint condition, put it in an individual plastic case instead of a binder with sheets. Cases keep cards in much better condition.
Really good idea! I haven’t done it yet, but I’m going to try it later today. Also, does anyone know where to get air-pump needles, I’m not sure if my mom still has her old ones!
It is a good idea but if you lose one,you will lose them all
Tape four or five air-pump needles together on a thin strip of duct tape. This makes them easy to find in your junk drawer.
I have a book called “measure twice cut once” about making wood projects.
Whenever you are doing a hobby that involves measuring, make sure you measure, then double-check the measurement before you do anything else with it.
Hi my name is sunshine and while walking through the park we pick up the fallen leaves and then placed them between waxed paper pressthem with the iron and marked each for school todays project. It was so cool doing this as a team. With all the colors turning one shade at a time. Sunshine
Good idea when i had to collect them for class the shriveled up
When collecting tree leaves, dip them in vegetable oil and cover with wax paper. This will preserve them for a long time. They will not dry out and tear.
when you are hunting make sure thieir is nothing that can make you jump because you could scare your prey away ,just don’t look around to long or your prey might see you!
when your shooting shouldn’t you have a certain size sight the bigger or smaller the gun is?
And keep your eye on the target. Else you might end up shooting blindly and perhaps even end up blind. Dugh!
Drakel, i thought the same at first…
I agree w/ blob and bill…and ada88…no offense, John
Thats true. And sometimes if you want the sunlight to stream in make your subject stand under a tree with not very much foliage
Hey no offense to you John but that is one of the cardnial rules of shooting in day light.
Yes then you can achieve easy front lighting. Also, if shooting in direct sunlight if you have a camera with Aperture priority mode, set your aperture to f/16. It makes the diaphragm of your camera small allowing less light in. this will cause less over exposed images.
this is kinda’ obvious even if you have no clue what you’re doing
The best time to take pictures is during the first or last 2 hours of daylight or on an overcast day as stated before. In the morning and at dusk the sunlight is naturally diffused by the atmosphere and generally causes a gentle golden glow. This is beautiful light for portraits of people. If you must shoot pictures in the bright sunlight hours, try to find some shade for your subject to stand in.
If this is just not possible, you should stand with your back to the sun or to the side, otherwise, the sun will over expose you picture and cause your subject to be very dark.
A trick to stop the squinting eyes is to have your subject close their eyes and open them when you count to three. Also on three, you take the picture.
I hope this helps. Keep shooting! Photography is a wonderful hobby.
the best time to take pics is when its overcasted/cloudy, the light is disfused and no harsh shadows… in the bear book elective 11 page 222, gives tips and hints too…
Oops! I didn`t read about the camera part! I thout it was shooting a gun in daylight!
Put on good safety glasses, and yes it would be better because you might miss at night and shoot someone.
Wouldn’t your shadow appear in the picture?
Also, since this is so short, shouldn’t this be incorporated in with other related tips?
your right!in every photo book i have read it said that.
but then if you are takings photos of people they have to squint
For all photographers: When shooting in daylight, stand with your back to the sun, if possible.
I love Altoids tins, I collect them every chance I get. plus my mom loves mints so we both win. with the Altoids smalls tins I’m going to make a mini fishing kit, an emergency multi-wick candle and a flashlight. and with the regular tins I’m going to make a survival kit, fire starting kit, emergency candle and a fire can.
they also make amazingly tiny playable guitars, if you have the time and patience to make it (and are comfortable using a dremel…)
Altoid tins are also easy to decorate and are a nice way to carry around money or gum
ya. once i made a really cool mini amp with one. it was boss. i also made a little robot its name was timmy.
Or you could just use it to hold Altoids;) JK Tey also work for small parts.
I like to put my gum in there. Then later in the day I can just open it up and have gum whenever I want. It keeps the lint off it.
i really like this idea. My mom also thought of this a while ago (im not calling you a copy cat) and it worked great. Of course all the altoid cans work great fr small items or collectables. Good thinking david.
I think that’s a really good idea! My mom is big on recycling, so she’ll probably like the idea. (I can just tell her I’m storing model plane parts, when really, I’m keeping a secret stash of candy!) I can also hide little things in the tins to keep them safe (and hidden) from my little sister, like fishing hooks and emergancy matches for camping trips. Also, a little advice: You can also use cans, (though they don’t work as well,) and other small candy tins or boxes if altoid containers aren’t handy. Thanks for the idea!
Are you talking about round or rectangular “Altoids” tins? The water tight round tins are good for matches and emergency kits.
(Matches note: You want the hard to find “Strike Anywhere Kitchen matches. (They cost more but you don’t need a special striker strip. They can be found at some hardware and sporting goods stores.) Dip them hot melted parafin wax to waterproof them. Maybe even add a trick relight birthday candle for extreme wind conditionds. Try pressing the candle against the side of a just dipped match so the wax fuses them together.)
Rectangular tins are good for small parts, magnetic hide away caches (add a refrigerator magnet and stick it under something iron or steel).small electronics projects (Look up the “Rock Mite” ham radio transmitter/reciever.)
If you want a Waterproof rectangular tin for cheap look in fancy grocery stores for “Bonbons Napoleon”. The tin is larger than “Altoids” heavier guage steel and has a rubber gaskit.
Kit contents: Military surplus signal mirror, Pocket knife, Wire saw, 1/32 oz DareDevil fish lure, Needles in mirror cover, Spare compass, Magnesium fire starter, small Bic lighter, pencil stub, Band aids, Gauze pad, antiseptic, water pure tablets, Asprin, Kaopectate, ect.
What would you add?
You can also put a small survival kit (matches, gum, firestarter etc) in them and then put it in your camping gear so you never will forget it
You could put matchboxes in the Altoids tins for your camping trip. And put the Altoid tins in a old, closable, lightweight, toolbox.
Yes! And a great place to store these tins is in a sturdy shoe-box. Each tin should be marked by category (stamps, screws,coins..etc.) and then placed in the shoe box. If you list what’s in each tin (alphabetically on the outside of the shoe box), you can put all the stuff away neatly on a shelf or bookcase. The challenge is getting enough tins…
Save empty Altoids tins. They make a great place to store small parts, such as the gas pedal for model cars, that might get lost if put in a big box.
Using the canning rings in a pinch is a good idea, remember to use thim with the litle lip ON TOP.
Small Salmon or pineapple “flat” cans work well IF they you can remove BOTH top & bottom
Canning rings are good to cook with, but I prefer to use a stove, or maybe a fire.
If you would like a handle on the tuna can, Do not cut the lid all the way off, Bend lid up and fold cut edges together. Makes a good cup or cooking pot.
You can make perfecly shaped egg patties for egg breakfast sandwiches. Pour 1 whipped egg into an empty (and cleaned!) tuna can and put it onto the stove/grill/burner.
I’ve done this. Need to use pam or some other no stick agent or the eggs will stick to the rings. The grease in the pan does not seem to help.
i was alone left in the tenns. mountains had no food nothing to drink and i found some cans i the rd
Use canning rings to cook eggs for sandwiches made with English muffins or hamburger buns.
i make alot of models and i would never think of that
good job
police2130, it is alot of wood glue and sawdust. it wont break easily
If you put a dent in a plastic part of a model, mix wood glue and sawdust together, place in the dent and sand down. When you paint it, it will look as good as new.
I used the idea on threaded both ends through the slide, then again one at a time…. it works wonders! No more lost slides! And, its not really a knot tied in the N/C, so it can’t really be forbidden.
you can make a n/c slide using to things clay and tiet plastick ring. you can make an eagol for exampol out of clay and hot or supur gluet to plastick ring. It will look good and stay good on youre n/c plus you don’t run inthe uniform?
The first day I wore my neckerchief, the slide slipped off and got lost. We found it and decided more security was needed. Now I slide the ends through the neckerchief slide twice (first together, then individually). It will be impossible to slide off accidentally and the ends will be even.
glue a ring of plastic inside the slide (woggle ) to make it tighter
You could tie a knot in your neckerchief and put your slide on theknot .it cant be seen ,works well.
Another way is to put the slide on the usual way then run one end of the scarf back through the slide again. It keeps it from slipping off, cant be seen, and if you pull the other end out first the slide stays on the n/c so you don’t lose it.
You can also take a pliers and tighten your neckerchief
Good idea! I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m going to tell the trop leader of my scout group about it and maybe we can all try it as a group! Thanks for the idea!
I just wrap a rubber band around my tie. Then it won’t slide down.
besides, making a knot on the n/c is FORBIDDEN UNLESS your troop agrees on it because the slip knot represents a good turn daily. so either tighten the slide or tough luck! see my REAL comments at collecting articles for patches/scouts/knives/bandannas/turtles/etc… BY “Jewish Scout” or “Kosher Scout”. you can ask ANY question about scouting and/or memorabilia, and i’ll answer it.
Wimachtendienk WW.
Slide your woggle (neckerchief slide) high enough so you’re not quite choked by it, then tie a knot in your neckerchief. Slide the woggle back down, and voilà! This is also FREE!
That’s a great idea, Christian! What I do is put a saftey pin on my neckercheif/slide to hold them together. P.S. I’ll have to remember that tip.
It is a handy thing to do and I have also invented my own way to make it not fall off. I use a rubber lego tire and my slide to stop mine. It also expresses what I LOVE to do, build legos.
To keep your neckerchief slide from falling off on the go, wrap a rubber band around the middle of the neckerchief below the slide. The rubber band will stop it from coming off.
Turn the fans on while you wax so the air holes don’t get clogged!
My dad said that if you apply something to an air hockey table besides duster fluid, the holes that the air travels through on the table will be blocked.
u sound like a comercial advertiser, rye (can i call u that?)
cool
Great idea! It is like the best way in the universe to play air hockey!
I asked my dad about boat wax and he said that almost any boating store will have it and some sporting goods stores too! He also says to look in Wal*Mart to see if they have it there! I got my boat wax at a boating store.
im not the kid of guy who waxes boats, so that means im not the kind of guy who knows where to get boat wax
Works well with snowboard and ski wax as well…
Thanks! Great Idea! Do u know where i can get boat wax easily?
Tired of playing a super-slow game of air hockey? Use some boat wax to coat the surface of the table to get the game flowing at top speed!
My science teacher had us do that when we were building bridges…
Worked for me just fine! It didn’t work for my friend, but I don’t think he was doing it right! As a tip for other boys who want to do this: be careful so you don’t mess up, you might end up breaking everything! (LOL)
I think that would work better than shooting in day light
Thanks That is an interesting thing to do. It will deffinetely help me in the future.
from: ice man 5000
Use old wooden clothespins to clamp the small pieces of your wood-frame model when glueing. The clothespins have just the right amount of pressure.
Why not just roll the poles up in the core of your foam (mattress) pad?
No “a” it protcts your poles and u put it like u would with your baggage.
If you are going on a plane and bringing trekking poles, put them in a PVC or map tube.
Love the pinewood derby? Want tips for making your pinewood derby car go faster? Looking for ideas for an amazing pinewood derby design?
I love to cook!it’s really good idea!thenk’s!!
ive heard you can roast food in a can on hot coals
That’s a classic. So good. You can dice the patty for easier eating with a fork/spoon. Every other year at summer camp.
Thank all of you for your helpful and informative tips. Never assume that everyone knows this. Every year we all have new scouts and their families join our packs and troops. This type of information helps us all and gets us to thinking and reinventing.
Ya know my uncle Art used to make this, except with he used ground beef to make meatballs and then cooked it
my friend did this 3 months ago at dinner. He could’nt see it WASN”T cooked until my scout master came around. i, cooked spam. it was perfect ( i fried it).
its called a hobo meal,we usually make them at camp
If you like these for dinner then you may want to add a little something for after dinner. Wrap several apple slices, a few rasins, a dash of cinnimon and a touch of butter in foil and cook 20 minutes and you will have the best dessert you have ever had camping.
good ol’ reliable foil meal. It’s been to long since I’ve had one of those
I will try that. :-]
what is wrong with hotdogs
My family made brown bears: find a long stick and cover one end in foil. Take regular biscuit dough roll in your hands (snake like) twist over foil. Roast it like a marshmellow. When golden brown, roll in butter, then in cinnimon and sugar. These are great!!!
In michigan we cooked hamburgers and hot-dogs on the fire
The naysayers, please keep discouraging remarks silent. With all the sites a forum troll could thrive, I don’t think a place for promoting scouting is an appropriate one. Any good tip about eating in the woods is never common knowledge for everybody.
To easyfee, yeah, we called ours hobo dinners as well. Our biggest thing was two dutch ovens will with stew meat, corn, peas, green beans, carrots and potatoes along with tomato sauce, water and elbow macaroni. Slow cooked in a pit with coals on the top and bottom. Our third dutch oven would be for fry bread at lunch and then a giant peach cobbler for dinner’s dessert.
And to Sarah, cooking in foil is always a handy bit of info to know. Don’t let the negative feedback get you down.
that was in cubscout handbook … real smooth
i wonder if it would cook lobstah or clams!
thats how we kickit in maine
Thank you captain obvious.
Here in MD, if we weren’t famous for crabs, it should be meat.
T. 672 calls the meal in foil, Silver Turtles (due to the shape and color of the foil)
We use Meatballs, chicken, hotsauce, and pasta sauce
ahhh, dutch oven. two words SUPER HARD
we like to put smoked sausages and green peppers and onions in our packets yum yum yum
If you put a cabbage leaf on one side. Add your meat, potatoes, and other ingrediants on top, Then top with another cabbage leaf, and close up the foil, it prevents the rest of the food from burning if it’s on a hot coal too long. The cabbage flavor doesn’t seem to seep into the food either.
our den calls them Hobo Dinners. it is good, one boy made his with tatortots and corn. we use tongs to pinch the corner of the pouch and pull it from the coals. it is a good idea to bring extra tin foil just in case you open a pouch that is not cooked all the way through and you need to put it back into the fire. we write our names on them with a marker so we know which one is ours. they need to cook 10-15 min each side depending on how hot your coals are
The way we do it here in IL is we put a venison sasuage with mashed taters n’ gravy and a side of cornbread
when my dad first made these for a bunch of scouts about 40 years ago we called them Hobo Dinners
That is a really good recipe. However, if you were a reader who didn’t find it tasty, I can offer a few suggestions:
-First of all, beef isn’t the only kind of meet you can use. You can also enjoy chicken, pork, and grilled vegetables using the same cooking method.
-Potatoes are really easy and fun to make this way. Don’t include butter in the packet though, or you’ll end up with a complete mess.
-If you aren’t going to do this with adult help, you need to cook these between the coals. This way, it is a much safer way to enjoy a delicious meal. Even using this method, you need to remember to be very careful getting it out of the fire.
-And last but not least, a lot of people complain that this recipe doesn’t work for a reason- they forget to flip over the packet. If you don’t, there is a 50% chance that you might be in for a slightly underdone meal.
At camouts MA style we do it with potatoe a slab of porkchop w/ salt on it before cooked
and a nice warm cup-o-coacoa
that’s how we kickit MA style
this sounds like a foil pack. you just cook a hamburger with toppings(not condements), cut up potatoes, and other things, in foil. then you put in a bit of water, make 100% sure the foil is closed up, put it on a fire, watch it swell up, and remember to flip it over once so the whole thing cooks well
even easier just use a tattie (potatoe) We do it all the time put it in he embers then take it out later and you have a baked potatoe
we have also do this in the coals. we used patties, sliced potatoes, onions, a small ear of corn sometimes, and sprinkle it with a little chilie power, good eating even the kids eat this.
yos it is called a foil packet we make them all the time over here in PA
WHY DO YOU CALL IT AN EASY MEAL FOR CAMPING
I have had these on several occasions, and they are delectable, but I have a few suggestions. I personally like having the beef patty with green peppers, onions, potatoes and carrots. They go good with a slice of bread. Also, instead of putting the foil packs (as I call them) into a camp fire, try putting them into a bed of hot coals. They’re easier and safer to removie than an open fire.
Sounds like lunch! =P
When you do this it should have a good seal and a way to check is the
tin foil should blow up with air.
That sounds really good. We have also done this by using hamburger, frozen crinkle fries, carrots, and for the adults, diced onions and green peppers were added. Everyone loved it!
I love reading these arclties because they’re short but informative.
