Start hydrating a week before your hike. Water only, no Gatorade or soda. If you feel dry mouth thirst on your hike, you are in trouble already and need help. Another warning in no sweat on arms but rather dry, hot skin – again you are now in a critical health situation in need of care and rescue hydration.
