The Scouts of Troop 505, Mechanicsville, Va., biked 185 miles of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath last summer, riding all the way from Cumberland, Md., to Washington, D.C., in one seven-day trip.
Watch this video of the Scouts biking the C&O Canal, and then check out the August 2009 issue of Boys’ Life magazine to find out more about their adventure.
I did this with my father in 3 days. Good pace.
There used to be a BSA award for hiking/biking the C O Canal. Does this award still exist?
I tried that , i made it
we did this summer and loved it, and was pleased to see this story in the boy’s life magazine last month. but this group should’ve tried for 185 in 5 days, and if i was alone i’d be done in 3. maryland’s a great place for cycling, i can’t wait to go back sometime and do it again
i love bike riding ride on dudes
Our Trooop 11 is currently working on the Cycling MB. I am an Asisstant Scoutmaster, and I’ve gone on two bike hikes with the Troop. (One 10, one 15 miles).
i think that was an amazing bike trip the boy scouts did did.
this troop is the best, their scoutmaster is number one
thanks
i want to do this
to person , zbiker is so right so sign up
7 Days is just right! If you feel the need set speed records, then the sign up for a race! Try canoeing the Potomac River next to the towpath…it’s beautiful and fun! Watch out for dams and Great Falls.
Our troop did this in 2008 and had a blast!! We didn’t shoot any video but took lots of pictures.
7 days is too easy. do it in 3 and go all the way from pittsburg to D.C in 6.
Our troop went on a day ride that was 62 miles. We went on the Coeur d’ Alene River Trail in Idaho. We saw Moose, Blue Heron, Beaver, and Eagle on the trail.
That looks fun
i did this to with my dad!
