Lawnmowers and weed whackers are super-effective at cutting grass and chopping down weeds. They’re also noisy and they smell bad.
Another alternative? Goats.
Gavin Burseth, a 16-year-old Boy Scout from Illinois, recently brought in 38 goats to remove invasive species from the Blackwell Forest Preserve Family Campground. The goats even ate up the poison ivy with no problem.
Gavin says he’s in the process of working towards a Hornaday Medal, the BSA’s top conservation award for youth.
