Two Great Days to Get Outdoors and Serve

Scouts know that any day is a good day to be outside, but especially on two days designated for celebrating and protecting the outdoors.

National Trails Day

National Trails Day is held every year on the first Saturday in June. Encourage someone to go hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding or paddling with you that day, or participate in hundreds of events across the nation. There are even service projects planned to help build and maintain trails.

This year, National Trails Day will be on June 2, 2018. Find out about events on the American Hiking Society’s website at americanhiking.org/national-trails-day/.

National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort. Give back to your community by pulling invasive species, picking up trash, maintaining trails and more. Events are planned across the country, along with free admission at federal public lands and many state parks.

National Public Lands Day is on the fourth Saturday in September, which is Sept. 22, 2018, this year. You can find more information and a list of events at neefusa.org/npld.
