Great Eagle Scout Project Benefits Foster Children

Shane Uribe, a Life Scout from Troop 950 in San Diego, Calif., knows what it’s like to be in the foster care system.

From ages 5 to 9, Shane moved from home to home, carrying around all of his belongings in large trash bags each time he moved until he was eventually adopted by a loving family. Now 13, Shane has decided it’s time to help other kids who are in the same situation in which he found himself all those years ago.

For his Eagle project, Shane will be donating 100 high-quality duffel bags to foster children. Each bag will contain a stuffed animal, a flashlight (batteries most definitely included) and a blanket.

“These are items I would have treasured as a foster child,” Shane says on his website, “and I know other foster children will as well.”

Visit Shane’s own website to learn more about him and his project.

And check out this story about Shane that appeared on a San Diego TV news program.

  1. I have met many scouts over the years but never have I seen such and altruistic project, Shane truly lives the Boy Scout Law. He has set a standard for all scouts to live up to. I am so proud of your Scout Spirit. Thank you for passing it forward and helping adults see the need and taking your project to all foster children. God Bless you Shane and Thank you!

Wow Shane What a great story! I feel proud of you and I don’t even know you. I feel so happy when former foster children become so successful and who, despite what they’ve lived through can still find it in their hearts to help others. Hugs and props to you young man!
