1961 Amphicar

Another German gem, the Amphicar is the only amphibious passenger car ever made available to the public. President Lyndon Johnson kept one at his Texas ranch. Heโ€™d play tricks on unsuspecting guests by veering toward a lake and yelling โ€œThe brakes donโ€™t work! Weโ€™re going in!โ€ Heโ€™d laugh when the car then floated onto the water. The Amphicar reached 70 miles per hour on land and seven miles per hour on water. Unfortunately, the Amphicar battled the one major problem that can sink a floating automobileโ€”leakage.

minus the leakage problams this car I so COOL to have.I want one!

    • It has to be air-cooled so water won’t get in the engine.Cars w/o grilles are air-cooled and cars with grilles are water-cooled.

    • i’m pretty sure they did, but what they actually did wasn’t the best thing to do. like using crappy sealent to save money. i don’t know

Nice idea, but a design more toward the boat than the car might have made it successful

With better funding, provided that the blueprints are still in existence, the leakage problem could easily be fixed
