Make a classic Soma puzzle

SAFETY FIRST: Ask an adult to help with tools you haven't used before.

Looking for a homemade gift or just a fun game. Try making this classic Soma puzzle.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Saw
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Tape
  • Paint or oil finish
  • 16-inch-long board, 1 inch thick and at least 3 inches wide

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Step 1: Cut 27 1-inch-cube blocks

Step 2: Sand each piece

Step 3: Assemble and glue the 7 separate shapes A through G as shown. Use tape to hold the pieces together until they are dry.

Step 4: After the glue dries, remove tape and do a final sanding of the 7 puzzle pieces.

Step 5: Oil or paint the shapes.

TO PLAY

    This is my all-time favorite puzzle. There are dozens and dozens of different puzzles to try, not just the cube, so this is far more intuitive than that ‘other’ cube🙂

  6. Rubik’s Cubes are way better. I can silve a Rubiks Cube in under 30 seconds.

  9. This is cool, even though it isn’t a Rubik’s Cube, it is a good puzzle for PARTIES! And to out-smart the teacher.

  16. I thought that it was instructions on how to build a Rubik’s cube!!!!

  17. I made my own in a school class it doesn’t look that good because we didn’t have equal peices. This would have helped a while ago.
