Best backpacks with a hydration bladder

backpack-650

Q. Gear Guy, my troop is getting ready to go on a backpacking trip. I need a backpack. I would like a hydration bladder in it as well, but I don’t know where to start looking.

Here are two good options for you, depending on how big a pack you’ll need.

backpacks

For an all-in-one solution for an out-and-back or a quick overnighter, we love the CamelBak Fourteener 24 ($144.99). It carries 3 liters of water and offers another 23 liters of space for your gear.

For longer treks, the BSA Mountaineer 70L Backpack ($99.99) offers plenty of room for your gear and has a hydration bladder pocket and a port for a drinking tube. You’ll need to supply your own bladder.

Find details on both packs at scoutstuff.org.

  2. what is the best size backpack to get a twelve year old scout to pack for 1-2 nights including sleeping bag tent and pad. I was looking at 50L packs.

I just took the Mounteneer 70L to Philmont and it worked great! Looking forward to having it for years to come.
