The latest in water purification …

purifywater.jpgTHIS JUST IN: This has to be one of the easiest and coolest ways to purify water we’ve seen. The SteriPEN is a high-tech gizmo that uses ultraviolet (UV) light to kill bacteria, viruses, protozoa and other things we can’t pronounce that hide in dirty water and make you sick.

Just slip one end of the 3.6-ounce microphone-size wand into your water, push a button, and stir. It takes less than a minute to purify a 16-ounce bottle of water; about 90 seconds for a 32-ounce jug.

The SteriPEN Safe Water Pack comes with the battery-powered purifier wand, wide mouth bottle and a pre-filter to strain out all the big junk in your water. At $120, it’s not exactly cheap. But it’ll last for 5,000 treatments and has been proven to kill 99.9 percent of all bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Check it out at

  1. The Steri-Pen is now our units primary water treatment. With the pre-filter you can treat any type of water. We used it for 7 days in the BWCA and it worked flawlessly, even came home with the batteries still at 70%. Our unit cost for the unit was $59.00. That’s a lot cheaper than a pump; especially the replacement filters. You must have a wide mouth opening container too.
